Midsize Public Accounting firm seeks Full Charge Bookkeeper / Accountant

Will work on a variety of accounts with a diversified portfolio of industries.

JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for maintaining client relations through ongoing support, which includes general ledger, balance sheet, financial statement entries and reconciliations; payroll and year-end tax preparation and filing.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Bookkeeper performs a wide range of duties including some or all of the following:
Essential Job Functions

  • Handle data entry for various clients, which include check disbursements, deposits, and payroll information
  • General Ledger coding of data entered into the software system
  • Prepare bank reconciliations
  • Prepare Client Cash Adjustments
  • Prepare all journal entries required for an adjusted trial balance
  • Reconcile payroll information to the general ledger
  • Prepare support for all balance sheet accounts and various income statement accounts
  • Review entire income statement
  • Prepare quarterly and annual payroll reports for small number of clients
  • Call clients with questions on information that is sent to us
  • Assist senior accountants and vice president with client questions
  • Complete cash flow and officer compensation reports
  • Responsible for organizer preparation and mailing
  • Prepare extensions of time for various tax returns
  • Responsible for reviewing logs to make sure reports are filed timely
  • Assist other staff and clients with software usage
  • Review and Math check financial statements.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • College degree in Accounting or Business Management/Administration
    Professional Designation
  • Non-applicable at this time
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of client relations, general ledger, trial balances, balance sheets, income statements, financial statements and payroll applications
  • Thorough knowledge of financial accounting practices and procedures
  • Understanding of governmental regulations and reporting requirements
  • Understanding of related auditing and IS functions
  • Solid reasoning, analytical, technical, mathematical and language abilities

Proficiency in the use of computer programs for:

  • Accounting
  • Microsoft Office Applications
  • Databases
  • E-mail
  • Internet

Experience

Minimum of three years progressively responsible related experience required. Additional education or certification may be substituted for some experience. Knowledge in generally accepted accounting principles required.

Working Conditions

  • Bookkeeper will work in an office environment
  • Bookkeeper will usually work a standard work week
  • Bookkeeper may be required to work some overtime hours during specific periods of the accounting cycle such as during tax season with overtime work required February 1 through April 15
  • Bookkeeper must complete a minimum of 20 credit hours of Continuing Professional Education (CPE) each year

Physical Requirements

  • Sitting in a normal seated position for extended periods of time
  • Reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction
  • Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s), for example, using a keyboard
  • Communication skills using the spoken word
  • Ability to see within normal parameters
  • Ability to hear within normal range
  • Ability to move about
